Relaxium Sleep is a natural sleep aid that is claimed to help you fall asleep quickly and have a deeper sleep through the night.

The efficacy of Relaxium in promoting sleep and possibly reducing anxiety has been well documented in research. However, some ingredients used are not the exact effective amounts, as shown in studies.

The product contains safe and natural ingredients that might relax your body, calm the mind, and restore your body’s natural sleep cycles, so it should be easier to sleep at night.

Relaxium Sleep was created and developed by Dr. Eric Ciliberti — a well-known neurologist and sleep expert. According to Dr. Eric Ciliberti, the product is a safe sleep aid made from natural ingredients and is non-habit-forming.

Relaxium Sleep comes in capsules that should be taken 2 per day with water.

Does Relaxium Work?

Relaxium Sleep contains a special blend of extracts and other ingredients that have been shown to help promote healthy sleep cycles. The formula promotes deep, restful sleep by helping your body produce more of its natural sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin.

Melatonin is a human hormone known to regulate sleep and reduce cortisol levels, which causes stress and anxiety.

Relaxium has ashwagandha and magnesium, which can help improve sleep quality by reducing stress and anxiety.

While melatonin will help you sleep quickly, magnesium will help you relax and sleep longer. The ashwagandha leaves contain triethylene glycol, which promotes sleep induction.

This product also contains gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter in the brain.

GABA lowers the activity in the brain and central nervous system. This plays an important role in facilitating sleep, reducing mental and physical stress, decreasing anxiety, and creating a calm mood.

Researchers found that taking 300 milligrams (mg) of GABA an hour before bedtime led to faster sleep than a placebo. Participants also experienced improved quality of sleep four weeks after starting the treatment.

Relaxium contains chamomile and passionflower extracts, which may promote sleep.

Chamomile contains apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to certain receptors in the brain that may promote sleep and reduce insomnia. Passionflower is also believed to enhance mood, relieve pain, and improve sleep quality by increasing GABA.

Relaxium Sleep Ingredients

Relaxium combines several natural ingredients claimed to improve your sleep cycle. Here is a list of the ingredients and what the studies say about them.

Relaxium sleep supplement facts

#1 Magnesium

Magnesium deficiencies have been linked to insomnia, stress, anxiety, and depression in adults and children.

Relaxium only has 100 mg of magnesium per serving, which is less than the recommended daily dose.

#2 L-Tryptophan

L-tryptophan is an amino acid that your body converts into serotonin and melatonin, making you feel good and sleep faster.

#3 Valerest proprietary blend

Valerest is a well-known herb that helps people sleep quickly and stay asleep. It has been traditionally used for centuries to help with insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety.

A small study, however, found that taking 300 mg once a night didn’t improve people’s sleep. There were also some side effects involved, such as headaches. Relaxium Sleep contains 228.9 mg of valerian root extract per serving.

#4 Sensoril Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to help people feel relaxed. It improves sleep by promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety.

In a double-blinded randomized controlled study, ashwagandha was shown to enhance sleep quality in people with insomnia. However, the dosage was 600 mg, substantially larger than in Relaxium Sleep.

Relaxium contains 125 mg of Sensoril Ashwagandha, which can still work when combined with melatonin and other ingredients.

#5 GABA

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid, or GABA, is an amino acid that the brain produces naturally. As a neurotransmitter, GABA facilitates communication between brain cells to help improve the quality of your sleep.

Studies suggest that GABA can promote deep sleep without causing adverse side effects. However, more research is needed to confirm the relationship between the type or the amount of GABA and sleep health.

#6 Chamomile & passionflower

Chamomile has been used since ancient times to treat insomnia and other sleep-related problems, including nightmares and night sweats. The elderly who took 400 mg of chamomile daily reported improved sleep quality. Relaxium, however, has only 75 mg of this herb, three times less than what was used in the study.

Passionflower is another herb used for relaxation and sleep aid, probably by increasing GABA levels. A 2011 study showed that participants who took passionflower tea for about a week had improved short-term sleep.

#7 Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the brain’s pineal gland. It helps regulate your sleep cycle, produced when you are in darkness.

During darkness, the body produces more melatonin, which signals sleep. Light reduces melatonin production and signals the body to wake up. People who experience difficulty staying asleep have low levels of melatonin.

Researchers suggest that supplementing melatonin may help you sleep faster and improve sleep quality.

What Are the Benefits of Relaxium Sleep?

Now that you know exactly what’s in the product, you may be interested to learn how Relaxium Sleep could benefit you. Read on to discover the key advantages of this sleep aid.

#1 Ensures deeper sleep

Relaxium contains a range of ingredients that have been scientifically proven to not only help you catch more Z’s, but also improve the quality of your sleep.

Research has shown that biosynthetic and natural GABA intake improves sleep quality and helps reduce stress.

Another study among the elderly suggests that those who ate higher-tryptophan cereals had longer and better-quality sleep, making this a great ingredient for sending you off into a deep slumber.

#2 Facilitates sleep

One of the main benefits of Relaxium is that it contains a range of ingredients that help to reduce stress and anxiety, which are leading causes of insomnia.

For example, in a study of elderly patients supplementing with magnesium, it was shown to improve insomnia and the quality of sleep. According to the study, consuming 500 mg of magnesium daily can help patients sleep longer and sleep more quickly while lowering their cortisol levels.

As we’ve mentioned, the key ingredient is the hormone melatonin. An analysis was done of randomized studies to assess the effectiveness of melatonin in treating primary sleep disorders, and it was found that melatonin can help induce sleep faster.

Melatonin lowers nerve impulses and dopamine levels by attaching to receptors in the brain. A reduced level of dopamine can encourage sleep, while higher levels can keep you awake.

#3 Might balance mood

If you’re struggling with mood swings due to stress, anxiety, or depression, many of the ingredients within Relaxium Sleep may be able to help with that.

GABA supplements can enhance mood, lower anxiety, and stress, and treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Meanwhile, ashwagandha is a powerful stress buster and has been shown to promote healthy sleep and can even help you lose stubborn weight.

Other ingredients such as melatonin and L-tryptophan increase levels of such as dopamine and serotonin in the body. Known as “happy hormones”, these neurotransmitters help to ensure that you remain bright and cheery when they are present in high amounts.

#4 Non-habit-forming formula

Non-habit-forming products are simply those that aren’t addictive. This means that your body won’t become accustomed to it, so you won’t suffer through withdrawal when you stop taking Relaxium.

Unlike some other sleep aids, you also shouldn’t need to take a higher dose the longer you use the product, as it doesn’t increase your tolerance.

Con of Relaxium Sleep

#1 Some claims are unproven

Although many of the ingredients within Relaxium have been shown by scientific studies to help improve your sleep quality, some, such as magnesium and ashwagandha, aren’t used in high enough amounts to be effective.

Other ingredients, including GABA, require more research to prove whether they are effective in boosting your sleep health.

#2 Costly

Starting at $39.99 for a 30-day supply, Relaxium is relatively expensive for a sleep aid as it contains a range of high-quality, clean ingredients that are supported by science.

The company also occasionally offers exclusive discounts to make the product more affordable, and it can often be found cheaper on third-party websites such as Amazon.

Relaxium Sleep Side Effects

Relaxium may have some side effects from two major ingredients –– GABA and melatonin.

This supplement can cause:

  • drowsiness
  • dizziness
  • sleepiness
  • nausea
  • trouble waking up
  • lethargy
  • uncoordinated movement.

If you experience these symptoms while taking Relaxium, stop taking this medication and call your doctor.

The melatonin in Relaxium is not natural – it’s synthetic. There are no known severe side effects associated with melatonin, but, as it was said before, it may cause dizziness, headache, nausea, or drowsiness.

Although the potential side effects of GABA have not been properly studied, side effects have been reported, including upset stomach, headache, sleepiness, and muscle weakness.

When taken in large doses, ashwagandha can cause digestive upset, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.

What is the Price of Relaxium Sleep?

Relaxium begins at $39.99 for a 30-day supply, which is costly compared to many other sleep aids that you can purchase online or over the counter.

However, Relaxium Sleep can also be purchased at a lower cost on Amazon, at $17.95 for a 30-day bottle, or $29.95 for 60 days.

How We Tested

For anyone shopping for a new sleep supplement, it can be difficult to sort through all the labels, claims, and ingredient lists.

We break your search down with how we tested Relaxium for improved quality of sleep with four key elements:

Quality 6/10

An ingredient label is always the first thing we look at when choosing a sleep supplement. The active ingredients should be backed up by sleep-relevant science and dosed appropriately. The ingredients in Relaxium Sleep are clinically proven to be of quality in humans. However, the dosage is not as per the effective recommendation.

Effectiveness 5/10

We check to see that every supplement we choose is gentle on the stomach by looking for ingredients that have been studied on humans in a clinical trial. Relaxium is effective in improving sleep, but some of its ingredients might cause minor side effects.

Price 5/10

The cheapest sleep aids tend to contain a single active ingredient. Formulas that are more expensive always feature high-quality, clean ingredients. Although Relaxium is costly, its ingredients are supported by science.

Brand reputation 8/10

We check brands that are transparent about their ingredients, sourcing, and quality testing. The company should also commit to sustainable packaging and/or shipping practices. Relaxium Sleep, in this case, offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, which speaks volumes about how the company trusts its product.

Twice, after taking one Relaxium capsule, I had a full day of vomiting and diarrhea occurring simultaneously which prevented two airplane trips to visit relatives for Thanksgiving and Christmas. On previous occasions of taking it, it seemed to help sleep. Hence, varying results!
