5 Hair Loss Mistakes To Avoid For People Over 50

Hair loss is a very touchy subject, and it’s never easy going through it.

Our hair is very personal to us and brings a strong sense of pride and joy.

I’m writing this to you as a doctor specializing in hair and scalp treatments from my years of experience.

And through my practice, I’ve seen countless people repeat the same hair loss mistakes.

There is one thing I always tell all my patients, and that is…

In my career, I’ve seen many changes that even I find complicating to explain

I’ve seen cases where it seemed like it would be a success but with no results. I’ve also seen seemingly lost cases make a comeback from their sheer persistence.

These patients kept an open mind and ended up transforming their entire lives.
Change is definitely possible, and there is never a good reason to give up. You just need the right information.

Mistake #1 – Using Hair Products Containing Harsh Ingredients

When you have a head of rich, thick hair, it’s an undeniable sign of vigor and youth.

Shampooing your hair is an important thing to stay consistent with, even with hair loss. But you need to be cautious of what products you are using.

Most store-bought shampoos are notorious for being packed with synthetic chemicals like:

  • Phthalates/fragrance
  • Sulfates
  • Silicone
  • Parabens
  • Formaldehyde
  • Triclosan
  • Dimethicone
  • Alcohol
  • Salts of any kind

These products strip the oils and moisture away from your hair. This affects your scalp’s normal function and worsens hair loss.

Some ingredients coat and harden around your cuticles as build-up, preventing precious moisture from entering the hair and making it undernourished and brittle.

In more serious cases, the build-up will clog up the cuticle and cause hair to break and fall off.

Imagine exposing your scalp and follicles to these chemicals on a daily basis.

My personal advice:

If you’ve been using harsh products for a while, it’s likely your scalp is already aggravated. So if you’re looking to make an active switch of hair products – be patient.

And start being on the lookout for products that do not contain these toxic chemicals.

Mistake #2 – Being Too Rough With Your Hair

If you’re noticing more and more loose hair stuck in the shower drain, then this might be a strong factor.

The top mistakes are made when drying your hair.

First is blow drying your hair with too much heat, damaging your already thin strands of hair.

Another is towel drying your hair too roughly. Remember, your hair is most fragile when it is dripping wet!

My advice:

Start shopping for a blow dryer with a cool or neutral temperature setting. You can even find the ones that are designed for curly hair types. These dryers reduce hair damage by a large amount.

As for towel drying, invest in a high-quality towel made from gentle material. These towels decrease a lot of the friction created with drying.

Mistake #3 – Giving Up

When the first signs of hair loss start to set in, all your hair strands start getting weaker and more fragile.

Which can lead to more damage overtime.

And while going through this, it’s understandable to start getting more skeptical. Or being doubtful of any chance of recovery.

Especially if you’ve been trying more products and solutions than you can count – all of them failing you.

My advice:

Of course, the earlier you can address hair loss, the better. But if you have been dealing with hair loss for a while, it is still possible for you to regain a new set of hair.

Giving up is not the answer.

It’s going to take a little more time, but change is still possible.

All my successful patients who rescued their thinning hair were struggling for years trying out various solutions that didn’t work. Which is exactly why I’m sharing these tips with you.

Mistake #4 – Not Giving It Time

Before you go on to try something drastic like hair replacement surgery, remember that trying to regrow your hair takes time.

It is a gradual, progressive process.

And there are a few problems with drastic solutions. One of them is that it’s never easy trying to hide it from your friends and colleagues. There’s also the risk of not knowing if the end result will actually look good.

And the chance of hair loss coming back will still haunt you because you haven’t dealt with the real root cause of it.

You’re only slapping a temporary band-aid on the problem.

The road to restoring luscious hair that’s once more full of glow and vigor requires a lot of patience.

My advice:

You might start to think you’re looking older or that you’re less attractive, along with many other negative thoughts.

Let me tell you that it’s perfectly okay to have these thoughts, but don’t give them any attention.

You want to spend most of your time focusing on the thought of success and regaining a thick head of hair.

You can do this by taking a few minutes from your day to visualize yourself making progress with your hair growth each day.

This might seem a little unorthodox, but the practice actually has merit. Your body has actual, physical responses to what you focus on mentally – so remember to stay positive!

Mistake #5 – Incomplete Treatment Plans

Of all the things you see on this list, this is the biggest mistake of them all.

It doesn’t matter what you try – DHT blockers, foam shampoos, minoxidil, creams, hair masks, or supplements…

The truth is that 99% of the solutions available out there will not work.

Sure, there will always be a lucky minority who will find success, but they are the extreme exception.

The problem is that these solutions only focus on solving 1–2% of the actual cause of your hair loss. The reality is you would need to spend over $5,000 on many individual solutions to find any real success.

Which is why I’m grateful to share that I’ve found a solution that works.

One that doesn’t just fix a small part of the problem but deals with every angle of what truly causes hair loss.

The key to stronger and healthier hair is to have a holistic solution.

My advice:

If you are about to spend thousands of dollars on a fix, be sure to do your homework on it.

A hair loss solution has to be based on something sustainable and proven. And recently, I have come across an exotic & hard-to-get ingredient that’s a total breakthrough for hair growth!

Ever Heard Of Fulvic Acids?

Fulvic acids are naturally found chemicals created in tiny amounts by millions of organic microbes as they break down plant matter. The most potent and active fulvic acids are pulled straight from rich, fertile, and loamy soil.

Resulting in a truly unique hair-care formula that is gentle on the hair and scalp while still stimulating rapid growth for the whole scalp.

  • Boosts the hair regrowth process
  • Supports healthy & richer follicle development
  • Naturally stimulates the scalp
  • Helps with better blood flow to your hair

And fulvic acids are actually one of the main ingredients used in Moérie’s products. This was a company I had first heard from a patient of mine. He was seeing quite positive results consistently with the product and naturally it caught my attention.

As time passed, more and more patients started approaching me with nothing but good news on it. So I knew I had to check them out for myself.

Why Our Scalp & Follicles Love Moérie So Much

They have a unique formula with over 125 active substances which is why they are so helpful in nurturing strong, vibrant hair.

And what really makes them stand out is that they’re a natural plant-based solution based on hundreds of patients showing real results.

Shown above is their hair growth set which is their most complete package available. It consists of a shampoo and conditioner set, a potent hair growth spray and a deeply nourishing hair mask.

I want to point out that this product was designed with extensive feedback from Moérie customers.

With results often visible after only the first bottle, I would say this is what a true solution looks like…

And here’s what I’ve seen in my patients. In just a few weeks, stage 6 & 7 baldness patients started to see baby hairs regrowing on their crown and front of head. And in patients who were in Stage 3 & 4, they started seeing hair growing back on their hairline and bald spots.

You can start feeling the effects in your first few uses, you’ll watch your hair gain more volume. You’ll also see your new head of hair take on a silkier and shinier texture.

After a couple of months, your hair will start growing stronger and healthier.

It’s easy to forget what happens when we’re confident with how we look. We start feeling really good all the time, and it shows in our relationships and work environment.

From what I know, their stocks are currently running low. This is because they have a high focus on sourcing quality ingredients, and that’s not easy to do at scale.

The entire process is extensively strenuous and labour intensive. From location scouting, transporting the raw ingredients in its unprocessed form, all the way to the extraction and stabilizing the ingredients to a ready-to-use state.

I honestly have nothing but good things to say about Moerie so I do highly recommend that you check them out for yourself!
