I’ll start by saying that I grew up in a fatphobic family, and my parents were consistently derogatory about my aunt’s looks.
She was obese, had PCOS, and unfortunately died of bowel cancer in her early 60s. Her death was clearly related to her weight, and at the time, I was just sad that my dad couldn’t even have a funeral for her without commenting on her size in the pictures.
I was a tall and slender young woman at the time, so the weight was not an issue for me, but the fear of gaining was already instilled deep inside my brain.
And then I got diagnosed with PCOS
I was in my early 20s when I started noticing the first symptoms – extremely irregular and mostly very heavy periods, hair on my chin and chest, and pounds creeping in one by one.
My physician ran multiple blood tests on me. Besides being diagnosed with PCOS, I started developing insulin resistance too.
I was prescribed Metformin soon after. My weight was still within the normal range at the time, but I knew exactly what was about to happen.
I gained 40 lbs without changing my diet
I couldn’t accept myself so big. The rolls, the floppiness, the belly sticking out… But the worst was realizing I did nothing to gain weight, and trying to lose it felt impossible.
I was so embarrassed by the way I looked I had to stop seeing my family. They weren’t saying anything straight to my face, but I knew what they were thinking, and that made me extremely anxious and even depressed.
3 popular diets that failed me
I’m a fighter. I did keto for a while, which seemed promising at first, but the fact that I had to restrict so many foods I loved was unbearable. I wasn’t used to depriving myself.
The same happened with a low-carb diet.
I also tried counting calories and macros. This led me to a week of eating no more than 1,200 calories per day. That’s until I almost fainted in a parking lot next to my apartment building.
I’m sure these diets would’ve worked wonders for a healthy person, but they were doing nothing for me.
As if that was not enough, I started craving sweets like crazy. I lost control of my appetite and would binge on fast foods sabotaging my health even more.
No one has told me this before
My doctor wasn’t suggesting anything besides increasing drug doses and eating healthy. I was tired of explaining that nothing was actually working for me.
I spent hours and hours clicking and scrolling through stuff until one PCOS forum message caught my eye. The comment said:
“I have PCOS, and my dietitian recommended intermittent fasting and a natural fiber appetite suppressant as a weight loss method. I’ve been combining the two since around July and have lost just under 50 lbs! I had some insulin resistance before I started. I didn't want to restrict my diet a lot to lose weight and I like eating sugar (which I now substitute with an appetite suppressant drink, it tastes like strawberry jam!). Now my insulin resistance is gone and it wasn't too difficult.”
I dug deeper into the comments to find more details.
I wrote down the exact name of the supplement and “intermittent fasting” on a piece of paper and took it to the appointment with a dietitian I booked a week later.
Here’s exactly what I did to lose pounds
To my surprise, fasting intermittently and taking a fiber appetite suppressant was one of the common methods to lose weight for people with PCOS.
My dietitian checked the name of the appetite suppressant I wrote down and ensured it was plant-based, natural, and absolutely safe to use.
I was told it would keep me satiated for at least 2–3 hours, and it would make the fasting experience so much easier.
She also suggested I follow the 14:10 fasting routine (14 hours of fasting followed by 10 hours of eating) and take the appetite suppressant supplement twice a day: when I felt hungry out of my eating window or when I wanted to snack on something sweet.
I have to say… I didn’t believe in intermittent fasting and especially not in this fiber appetite suppressant, but at the time, it seemed like it was my only option.
The shame and limitations of the excess weight were becoming almost unbearable.
And truth be told, once I started IF and the appetite suppressant, I was so surprised how it controlled my eating habits and appetite so quickly. And how easily I managed to go from snacking on sweets to making a tall glass of that fiber appetite suppressant drink.
It gave me all I needed – the pleasure of satiety, the taste of the desert, and the feeling of accomplishment; I knew I was staying on track (one glass of the appetite suppressant is only 10 calories and didn’t break a fast!).
I now eat 3 times a day within my 10-hour eating window. Because of the appetite suppressant, I no longer have cravings or binge attacks. I don’t snack on junk food, and I look forward to my meals! I wake up with more energy, feeling light and ready for the day.
After I started intermittent fasting and the appetite suppressant combo, I lost the weight in under 6 months!
I just had bloodwork done recently for the first time last week since that hurtful fertility talk with my doctor.
I got my results back last night and couldn’t believe it.
Nothing has ever worked this way for me.
Triglycerides fell from 88 to 60.
C Reactive Protein, which is a marker of inflammation, fell from 4.35 to 3.80!
I feel so much healthier, lighter and self-confident. Sometimes I forget I have PCOS!
Please consider trying intermittent fasting, but especially the appetite suppressant! It’s a game-changer!
