Aleksandr Sorokin wasn’t always in good shape. 9 years ago, he weighed 220 lbs, smoked, drank alcohol, and ate a lot of junk food. But today, Aleksandr’s life has completely changed, thanks to one simple thing. He is living proof that the human body has no limits as long as you believe in yourself.
Aleksandr was pretty active when he was in high school. Unfortunately, one sports-related trauma forced him to abandon all sports. He started moving his body again only when he was 32 years old.
“When I was a teenager, I was into kayaking. My dad was a well-known Lithuanian kayaker and trainer, so he invited me to try this water sport. I was quite good at it, actually.
I won a youth world championship and also participated in adult competitions. Until I got injured…” he said.
This injury stopped him almost at his peak, so he decided to end his sports career for good. Then alcohol, cigarettes, and a lot of junk food came into his life.
Aleksandr hadn’t even noticed how he started gaining more and more weight – until he reached 220 lbs.
“I didn’t like the way I looked. I didn’t even fit into the mirror! I knew that I couldn’t continue living like that.
“One day, I said to myself, ‘Enough! You have to do something about this.’”
He made a single decision that changed everything.
Aleksandr started losing weight and getting back in shape very quickly. He soon began feeling great again in his own body.
He quit drinking and smoking. Aleksandr’s health and overall well-being started to improve very fast as well.
Running not only helped Aleksandr improve his physique and physical health, but it also assisted him in transforming his mental health into a better version of its former self.
Aleksandr became much stronger, and thanks to running, he pushed himself even harder than he knew he could.
“Running changed my life. I’ve lost weight, my well-being improved as well as my looks. Without running, I would probably still be overweight.”
After his first run, Aleksandr realized that running is a great way for faster weight loss and better health.

In April 2012, Aleksandr started running longer distances (5–12 miles). Soon he signed up for his first running competition.
After a couple of months of training, he even ran his first half marathon!
After the half marathon, Aleksandr saw an advertisement for a 100km race a few weeks later.
“Why not? It might be quite a challenge,” he thought.
But along with feelings of excitement, he felt scared.
What if he wouldn’t be able to make it? What if he failed? What if his body wasn’t ready for the challenge yet?
And indeed, Aleksandr’s first 100km race was quite difficult.
But despite that, he really enjoyed it and was proud of himself. He proved to himself that he was able to run a longer distance.
That was the day when Aleksandr realized he had found his passion in life.
Over the last 6 years, Aleksandr has worked his way to the top of the international 24h running game. And in more recent years, it started to pay off finally.
“The thing about running is you can do more than you think you are capable of,” says Aleksandr
“I wasn’t very successful at the beginning. But with some hard work, discipline, and inner motivation, I could turn my fortunes around. I fell in love with running with every step and couldn’t stop.”
If Aleksandr could go back in time and tell his younger self that he’d enjoy running and break 4 world records in the future, he wouldn’t believe it! More likely, he would say, “Stop talking nonsense; let’s grab a beer.” And Aleksandr doesn’t miss that version of himself at all.
Thanks to running, Aleksandr is in his best shape and feels better than ever before.
