I’m Jenny, and I’ve been on approximately 12 different diets.
Want to know the worst part?
I’m 27 years old.
That means I’ve spent a disturbing portion of my life trying (and failing) different diets.
To say it’s been somewhat frustrating and discouraging would be quite an understatement.
Now, want to know the real kicker?
I’m currently closer to my goal weight and fitness level than I’ve been since starting my dieting journey. However, I’m truly loving the foods I’m eating, and it really feels unfair to even call it a diet.
As I’m sure I’m not the only self-proclaimed guinea pig who’s tried out every new “insanely effective” diet that pops up, I thought I’d share my secret to success. Maybe you, too, can then stop the trials and make the most of a solution that actually works for you.

Before I give you a little taste (get it?) of what I eat in a day to stay on track to reaching my goal weight and fitness level, here’s how it started.
Like many, I piled on the pounds during quarantine
As mentioned, I was a sucker for trying out different diets, and if there ever was a time to get started with one, this really felt like it.
After spending my days googling different “get fit fast” options, an ad popped up on my Facebook feed.
It was about a personalized meal plan called PerfectBody that would help me with my weight loss.
The guinea pig in me was intrigued, so I decided to check their page out.
PerfectBody turned out to be much more than just a meal plan. The program also included different workouts, steps, a sleep and water intake tracker, and a daily progress tracker. Oh, and a grocery list, so I would know exactly what I needed from the store without coming back with a bag full of emotion or craving-based purchases.
For me, it felt like the perfect solution because not only had I been struggling with my diet, I was notorious for falling off the fitness wagon.
So I decided to take the short quiz, which took into consideration all of my food preferences and current activity levels – and finally got my personalized meal plan.
Now, a little over 6 months later, I can’t tell you how happy I am that I did. I’m right on track to achieving my goal weight within the next few months, and I haven’t felt restricted or deprived once.
But now to the main event — what do I actually eat in a day to lose weight?
It’s worth mentioning that the meal plan includes over 1,000 recipes which you can also adjust to your personal liking. So this is just an example of one day of meals for me. But you can bet I mix things up and test out all the different yummy options they have.
No matter if I’m having a leisurely Saturday or hitting the office, I always start my day off with a glass of lemon water to get my metabolism going and make my water tracker happy.
As it happened to be a Tuesday, I had breakfast around 7 am.
My meal plan suggested a hearty porridge with seeds, so I enjoyed an oatmeal porridge with some cashew butter and flaxseed. Literally took me less than 20 minutes to make.
My favorite part about having porridge for breakfast is how long it keeps me full. It still seems a bit funny to me that something as filling as that gets to be a part of my weight loss meal plan. Yay me!
I had my morning snack at 11.30 am.
It was a super cold day, so I was beyond excited to have my creamy broccoli soup. The good thing about these recipes is that I can make a lot of them in advance. I made my soup the night before and warmed it up at work.
By the way, it included feta cheese, so to anyone who thinks you can’t have cheese and be healthy — what do you say now?
At 2 pm, lunchtime came around.
I was beyond excited to have one of my favorites — a poultry bowl — to enjoy. Once again, I had made it the day before, so it was easy for me to have it in the office.
This one includes all my favs — chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers, and quinoa. I tossed the whole thing together in about 20 minutes.
This one is a great example of why it’s crazy for me to call it a diet. I mean, this bowl is so delicious and nutritious I could probably have it every day.
I have a glass of water with every meal, but in case I forget — the PerfectBody app is there to remind me to keep my hydration station going.
To keep the step tracker happy, I usually walk home from work, which is a little over a mile.
I had my evening snack around 5.30 pm.
This time, I made a pasta salad with salmon. I love black olives and seafood, so this one was a real treat.
The best thing is that after a long workday, I’m not really interested in slaving over the stove for hours, so the fact that most of these meals take 15–20 minutes is awesome for me.
A big part of my success on this meal plan has been exercising, and I’ve actually been able to keep up with it. Before dinner, I did a quick and easy at-home workout from the Summer Beach Body Challenge the app offered. There’s a ton of exercises to choose from, so there’s definitely something for everyone.
7.30 pm — dinner time.
And another 20-minute magic!
I love Indian cuisine, so anything curry — sign me up.
For dinner, I whipped up some chicken curry, which tasted amazing and satisfied my curry cravings perfectly. It had some carrot and cherry tomatoes in it as well, so I was definitely getting my veggies while feeling like I was treating myself to a restaurant meal.
Now, you’d probably think my day of eating is done, but I do have a sweet treat for people like me…
I absolutely love sweets, but they’re obviously not really the way to go when trying to lose weight.
