I was gasping for air… My legs burning… Wiping the sweat off my face at the end of my 3.7-mile run.
“You can do it. Just a few more minutes and it will be over.”, I told myself.
I’ve been running like that for 6 months, 6 days a week.

How was I supposed to know any better?
I saw fit girls in cute leggings jogging on the street every day. It seemed effortless.
To me, it was anything but.
I would be running broken in sweat (and anger) thinking I was stuck in this fat body.
Obesity runs in my family and I thought that’s just the way I am (and will be.)
Sometimes I wished I could just go to a surgeon and peel that ugly fat off
It was a fight. Me vs fat. But I was running out of breath.

In my final mile on the treadmill, I got tired and careless.
I slipped and slammed my knee into the running belt. In sharp pain, tears in my eyes I was rushed to the ER.
An hour later doctor broke the news:
“No running for at least a few weeks. Maybe months.”
Months?! I went home with a knot in my stomach.
How else am I going to get rid of the fat?
What if I regain all the weight that I lost?

Thoughts like these were haunting me till dawn as I was lying awake, staring at the ceiling.
The next day I scoured the internet for answers.
Blog after blog I went down the rabbit hole… And what I found out about running shocked me.
Not only could I strain my knees running long distances (especially when you’re overweight more than 20 lbs like I was)…

That means I’d have to be drenched in sweat for HALF an hour on a treadmill just to undo ONE slice of cheesecake.
But what about milk in my latte?
Pesto on my pasta?
I wasn’t a fan of calorie counting but it helped me realize I could never lose the pounds that I wanted with running alone (or exercise for that matter.)
I knew I had to clean up my diet first. But I didn’t want to go on a “diet”
After all, I’ve tried every diet under the sun and I failed at each one because they would tell me the same thing…
- Give up everything you love to eat
- Cook tasteless meals
- Push through
That wasn’t sustainable.
I didn’t want to get on some nonsense diet pills or detox teas, either. I knew it was a scam.
So was that it? Was I going to be stuck with this fat forever?
I ditched the whole idea of dieting and just let go of hope to get in shape.
A few days later while scrolling through cat videos on Instagram, an interesting post came up on my feed.
